Morning Briefing

Tuesday Morning Weather Brief | Juy 22, 2025

By Eddie Sheerr·

GOOD MORNING!

Here are today’s weather headlines:

THIS MORNING / TODAY’S RAIN

We are seeing a fair bit of rain across much of the Island west of the eastern three Peninsulas this morning. The radar loop over the last 3 hours shows this very well. The brighter colours indicate heavier rainfall.

The area of low pressure driving today’s rainfall is going to slowly trudge its way over eastern Newfoundland between the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas on its way out into the North Atlantic. Just west of the low’s track, there will be significant rainfall through the morning before it tapers off in the early afternoon.

Rainfall amounts today will be highest just west of the Avalon Peninsula, where more than 20mm is projected to fall by this evening. Locally higher amounts are possible for locations that experience heavy downpours. Both Chance and Musgrave Harbours will see significant rainfall today, which should be a great help in the firefight.

TODAY’S WIND

On the west, or back, side of the low there will be some fairly high wind speeds from the north or northwest. You’ll notice these once the low passes your location, especially if you’re on the eastern side of it. Most areas of the Island will see wind speeds of 30 to 50 km/h today, with higher gusts along coastal areas. Some gusts will be in excess of 65 to 70 km/h today. The wind speeds will drop down quickly this afternoon and evening, once the low passes.

TODAY’S TEMPERATURES

Generally, we are looking at highs in the teens to near 20 today. It will be coolest along/near north-facing shores and warmest in the southwest. To see the temperatures expected in your areas you can get the app, or visit the forecast pages which have the Province broken down by regions with expected highs today and the following 7 days.

LABRADOR TODAY

  1. Good news. I don’t think I have ever prayed for rain before. This rain will certainly help with fire and fire risk for the short term. The drought is another thing.

    A great looking site.

    Thanks!

  2. Eddie would like to see the amount of rain in mm. There is mentioned of moderate rain but no amounts. Still have to use other weather apps to find out this info.
Checked the 7 day weather listing still no mentioned of rain amounts.

Other than that an informative app!

    1. Hey Shawn! Thanks for the feedback. There are rainfall amounts in the 7-day forecast, but I believe the amounts to show require a high forecast chance for rain (over 90%) and an amount forecast for the given area of over 5 mm. I checked yesterday and saw rainfall amounts in each forecast I looked at. If the predominant precipitation type is showers, it’s better if those amounts are not shown, as it’s quite literally impossible to forecast showers accurately, even in today’s world.

  3. Downloaded and bookmarked all the places SheerrWeather could be first chance I had and love it. The one thing I can’t seem to find anywhere, sorry Eddie 🙁 , is the Humidex along with Future Temps as this will matter more come winter with Wind Chills. I do a lot of planning around those temps. Thanks for reading this if you do, again, check you out everyday here. Wishing you a very good day 🙂
