Several wildfires continue to burn across Labrador after a significant lightning storm moved through the region on Friday, June 26. According to the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands, none of the fires currently pose a threat to communities.

Fire crews and suppression aircraft remain focused on the wildfire near Miron River, where firefighting efforts continue because of the fire’s proximity to the Trans-Labrador Highway and an NL Hydro transmission line.

Meanwhile, the fire at Emerillon Lake South remains under control, with monitoring continuing.

Other fires, including those near Oreway, Shallow Lake, and several fires burning north of Grand Lake, are being monitored but are not currently being actively suppressed. The province says those fires are in remote areas, are a safe distance from communities and other values at risk, and are located near large bodies of water that help reduce the immediate need for suppression efforts.
